  • Cutting length: DIN A3 / 460mm
  • Cutting height: 0.6mm / 6 sheets (80 g/m²)
  • For whom is the paper cutting machine recommended? The Dahle 508 roller cutting machine is intended for all those who want to cut not only DIN A4 but also sometimes DIN A3 large. Especially if you occasionally cut photos, cards or flyers, then the Dahle 508 is an affordable option.
  • What we like: The price/performance ratio of the Dahle 508 speaks for itself. Compared to other A3 paper cutters in this price category, the Dahle 508 has a lot to offer. The build quality of the machine is good. It makes a solid impression. The table and the cutting machine are made of metal, not cheap plastic.
  • What we don’t like: A backgauge is unfortunately missing. The angle unit of the Dahle 508 is slightly displaced in parts. However, this can be readjusted quite easily.

The Dahle 508 has a cutting length of 460 millimeters (A). This can be used to cut sheets or photos up to A3 format (29.7 cm x 42.0 cm). This trimmer is therefore ideal when larger sheets are to be cut. The total table length is even slightly larger (E). The centimeters on the bottom and top of the table start at 1cm on the right and end at 16cm (B). The last centimeter towards the roller blade is not imprinted. On the left of the long ruler (C) there are 12cm to the end of the ruler and on the right 4cm (D).

Weitere beliebte Maschinen zum Basteln oder für den Fotozuschnitt im DIN A4 Format sind die Dahle 505, die Zoomyo oder die Fiskars Surecut.

Depending on the paper thickness, 5 (70g/sqm) or 6 (80g/sqm) sheets can be cut in one operation.
Thanks to the non-slip rubber feet, the compact Dahle 508 trimmer stands stably on an even work surface. The weight of 1.3 kilograms ensures that working is easy. If it is not used, the cutter can be easily stored despite the large cutting length with an outer dimension of the table of 590 x 211mm.

In our test, we were able to cut six sheets of paper with the Dahle 508, as promised.

We did not find any deviations from the manufacturer’s specifications during our test.

How much force is needed?

The amount of force required remains within normal limits even when cutting seven sheets of paper. The cutting knob glides smoothly over the rail.

Is it easy to insert paper?

Before loading the paper, it is advantageous to slide the cutting head all the way up or down. Then the paper can be pushed under the pressure rail without any problems.

Is the paper cutter stable on the base?

Like the smaller 507 version, the Dahle 508 roll and cut trimmer has rubber feet. On these, the machine stands stably on the work surface.

Can the machine be easily modified?

To replace the cutting head, the locking device (4) must be released. Then the rail can be pulled out and the cutting head can be replaced easily.

What about safety?

When it comes to safety, slitter rewinders are a fine thing. The Dahle 508 has a circular blade built into a closed plastic head. Thus, optimum safety is achieved when working with the cutter. In addition, the winder has the GS mark of conformity.

How easy is the cut?

All those who want to cut the angle unit for right-angled (90°) angles should be careful with the Dahle 508. For this purpose, the format formals on the table should be used, since the angular plant is not rectangular. We were able to correct this problem ourselves very easily with the Dahle 507. However, in general, this paper cutter A3 is rated quite well. 0 Amazon-Kunden vergeben im Durchschnitt 0 von 5 Sternen für diese Schneidemaschine.. If you are interested in a comparable device with backgauge, we recommend the Dahle 552*.

The Dahle 508 can be used to cut other materials in addition to paper. These include labels, photos or even film material and felt. Unlike the Dahle 507, the cutter head cannot be equipped with different decorative blades. Only the replacement of the straight knife with a new knife is possible.

Precision

How accurately can you work with the paper cutter?

We have had the same experience with the Dahle 508 as we did with the Dahle 507. The format information facilitates accurate cutting. one is missing a back gauge. At the beginning, the cutting head seems a bit big and bulky. But we quickly got used to that. Unfortunately, a backgauge is missing, but this is normal in this price category.

Are the angles and millimeters as specified?

Our test machine has a slightly inclined angle system. However, this can be repaired very easily by yourself, as shown in our instructions. All other format. and angle specifications are correct.

Can narrow strips also be cut?

Narrow paper strips (5mm) can just be positioned under the pressure rail and cut off. For measuring, however, a sense of proportion is necessary, since the ruler ends before the cutting edge.

Corrective cuts are no problem with the Dahle 508 rotary cutter. We were able to cut strips of paper only one millimeter thick.
